The Mechanic Who Lost His Focus
Mike was the best mechanic in town. Everyone trusted him to fix their cars right the first time.
One day, Mike decided to open a second garage across town. His friend Tony warned him it might be too much, but Mike didn't listen.
Soon Mike couldn't stop adding new services. He started selling tires, then car accessories, then opened a car wash, added oil changes, and even tried to sell used cars.
Problems started quickly. Cars weren't fixed on time. Parts were ordered wrong. New mechanics made mistakes. Mike drove between garages all day solving problems.
When a longtime customer said, "My car still makes that noise. Your work isn't reliable anymore," Mike finally understood. He called Tony for help.
Together they made a plan. Mike sold the second garage and stopped all the extra services. He went back to focusing only on quality repairs.
Customers lined up again. "Mike fixed my car perfectly!" they told their friends.
Now when Mike has new ideas, he writes them in a notebook instead of trying everything at once.
βIt's not about how many things you can fix,β Mike tells young mechanics. βIt's about doing a few things better than anyone else. When you chase too many ideas, you fix nothing well.β
